Kiruna Explorer is a digital tool that narrates the ongoing urban transformation of the city of Kiruna, which is being relocated ahead of becoming the European Capital of Culture 2029. Built in collaboration between Politecnico di Torino and the City of Kiruna, the platform combines a dynamic timeline with thematic maps so visitors can explore how political, technical, and spatial decisions have shaped the city.
I worked on this project as part of a Master-level Software Engineering II course team. The backend is a layered Express application with a DAO architecture over SQLite, session-based authentication, input validation, and file uploads. The frontend is built with React and Vite, using Leaflet and Turf for interactive mapping and D3 for data visualization.
The platform was developed with a Docker-based workflow and continuous testing (Jest for the backend, Cypress for end-to-end tests).
